123Spend your day snorkelling the beautiful coral gardens and sheltered bays of breathtaking Orpheus Island.

Departing TSV @ 7am you ride in the Troopy to the launch point at Lucinda. From there the islands are only a half hour speed boat ride away.

We offer a personalized guided tour with a maximum of 6 guests. Our skippers are marine biologists and dive masters who will overview your snorkelling safety and answer all your questions about the marine life you encounter.

Snorkel with hundreds of colourful reef fish and schools of jacks @ Yanks Jetty – originally built as a degaussing station for American submarines in WWII. Keep a look out for the giant clams in fluorescent greens and blues.

Snorkel ancient coral gardens in Pioneer Bay adjacent to the Research Station the scientists here have marvelled at the speed and resilience the corals here have bounced back from natural and man made threats to boast one of the healthiest and diverse Coral Gardens on the entire Great Barrier Reef.

Previous snorkelling experiences is not required as our dive masters can run you through the correct techniques, however, we do recommend that you are comfortable swimming and have reasonable mobility if you snorkel. Of course there is also the option to just sit back and relax in the shade on Yanks Jetty and watch the others snorkel.


  • 07:00 P/U Behind Holiday Inn, Ogden Street, Townsville.

  • 08:00 Coffee stop @ Frosty Mango.

  • 09:00 Launch vessel, Dungeness Boat Ramp Lucinda.

  • 09:30 Transit through a world heritage section of Hinchinbrook passage.

  • 10:00 Fast, Fun RIB ride across to the sheltered waters of Orpheus Island National Park.

  • 10:30 Come alongside ‘Yanks Jetty’ to snorkel with hundreds of colourful reef fish, giant clams and corals.

  • 12:00 Time to feed the fish and have a fresh home made picnic lunch.

  • 12:45 Move along the island to snorkel at Pioneer Bay.

  • 14:30 Back on board for our fast fun ride back to the mainland – keep your eye out for dolphins.

  • 15:00 Pass close to Australis longest jetty @ the Lucinda Sugar Terminal.

  • 15:30 Hope back into the Troopy and return to Townsville discussing with your skipper all the amazing creatures you've seen!

  • 17:30 Back in Townsville.
